FOREST SCHOOL | YSGOL FFOREST

At Cwmffrwdoer Primary School, we are proud to offer a vibrant Forest School

programme led by our qualified Forest School Practitioner, Mr. Jeff Manning.

This unique approach to learning takes children beyond the classroom and

into the natural world, where they can explore, discover, and grow in a safe and

stimulating outdoor environment.

Forest School is a child-centred, nature-based learning experience that supports

holistic development. Through regular sessions in our on-site woodland area,

children engage in hands-on activities that promote:

  • Confidence and independence

  • Problem-solving and creativity

  • Physical health and coordination

  • Social skills and teamwork

  • Emotional resilience and self-regulation

Each session is carefully planned to meet the needs and interests of the children,

with a balance of structured play, free exploration, and guided discovery.

Activities may include den building, nature crafts, tool use, fire safety, and

storytelling—always with a strong emphasis on safety, risk awareness, and

respect for the environment.

Forest School is fully aligned with the Curriculum for Wales, supporting the four purposes by helping children become:

  • Ambitious, capable learners who are curious and engaged

  • Enterprising, creative contributors who explore and express ideas

  • Ethical, informed citizens with a deep respect for the natural world

  • Healthy, confident individuals who are resilient and ready to learn

We believe that there is no such thing as a bad session—even challenges and disagreements are seen as valuable opportunities for learning and personal growth.

Mr. Manning uses his expertise to guide children through these experiences, helping them build confidence, empathy, and a deeper understanding of themselves and others.

Our Forest School sessions are a highlight for many pupils, offering a sense of freedom, adventure, and connection with the natural world. They are an essential part of our commitment to nurturing well-rounded, resilient, and environmentally conscious learners.
