YEAR SIX
AUTUMN TERM 2025
Croeso i Dosbarth Rhossili!
This term, Blwyddyn 6 will be exploring the exciting topic of People, Places and Purpose, with a special focus on comparing Wales and Patagonia. Pupils will investigate the unique features, cultures, and environments of both places, using real-life data and outdoor learning to bring their studies to life.
In Literacy, we will be reading and responding to The Explorer by Katherine Rundell and Shackleton’s Journey by William Grill, using the stories as inspiration for our own writing and discussions about adventure, resilience, and discovery.
Our creative side will focus on refining our drawing skills, with a particular emphasis on drawing people and perfecting the details of the human eye.
In science, we will be learning about electricity and its uses, including hands-on projects such as building mud batteries and exploring how electricity powers our world.
In Maths and Numeracy, pupils will develop their cross-curricular skills by working with real-life numerical data, including temperature comparisons between Wales and Patagonia. We will make the most of our outdoor spaces, particularly our new Bat House, to collect and analyse data, deepening our understanding of maths in the real world.
As part of our topic, we will also be learning about the achievements of Welsh explorer Richard Parks, comparing his adventures and experiences with those of explorers in Patagonia. This will help us celebrate diversity and resilience, and inspire us to think about the different ways people overcome challenges around the world.
Every day, we will be developing our Welsh language skills across the curriculum, alongside daily TAPAS sessions. Pupils will also take part in weekly swimming sessions to build confidence and fitness. Throughout the year, groups of children will participate in ‘Flourish’ sessions, supporting their wellbeing and personal growth. We are also excited to continue our engagement with the local community care home, building meaningful connections across generations.
We are looking forward to an inspiring and active term, full of discovery, creativity, and community spirit!
