In Nursery, we are focusing on helping children settle into routines and begin their school journey with a positive start.

Our focus this Autumn term is people, places and purpose where our learning will be centred around family, with our enquiry question “Who is special to me?”.

 

We will be thinking about who makes our family both at home and in Nursery, inspired by the story Our Class is a Family. We will also be exploring our feelings through the story The Colour Monster, helping children to recognise and understand different emotions.

As part of our Curiosity Approach and Seize the Season, we will be embracing all the wonderful opportunities Autumn brings—exploring the changes, colours, and experiences this season has to offer.

During our Nursery sessions, the children will take part in:
- Daily Little Wandle sessions, a programme where children will begin to learn their sounds. For the first six weeks, our focus will be on Rhyme Time, where children are immersed in pre-literacy skills. 
- Daily TAPAS sessions, where children will be practising number, geometry, measure and data skills in a fun and practical way. This term, we are focusing on number skills. 
- Small group activities - Following our IGNITE curriculum, Nursery will receive lessons that link to expressive arts, science and technology, Humanities and Health and Well-being, to ensure they are having well-rounded experiences that help them on the road to becoming “Citizens of Wales and the world, who are ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society” (The Four Purposes Curriculum, 2022).

 

In Nursery, our provision is at the heart of everything we do. We ensure that all of our “invitations to play” are engaging, purposeful, and linked to our topic, so children can learn through exploration, curiosity, and play, and most importantly, have fun and create memories!
