AUTUMN TERM 2025
Dosbarth Aberdovey Lens – Curriculum Overview This Term
We are excited to share with you the learning journey planned for Dosbarth Aberdovey Lens this term. The children will be exploring a wide range of subjects designed to build their knowledge, skills, and creativity across the curriculum within the title ‘Why Do We Belong?’
Literacy
Our class text will be The Boy at the Back of the Class, which will allow us to explore themes of empathy, friendship, and diversity. Alongside this, pupils will be developing their writing skills through a special project: writing an autobiography of John Ystumllyn, recognised as the first Black gardener in Wales. This will provide a meaningful opportunity to practise biographical writing while also celebrating an important historical figure. To further develop our Welsh oracy skills.
Humanities
In our local study, we will be investigating the community of Cwmffrwdoer – looking at how it has changed and developed over time. This will encourage the children to make links between past and present, and to reflect on the importance of community. We will also be studying the contrasting community of Patagonia, and the importance of its Welsh roots,
Mathematics
Our maths lessons will focus on:
-
Understanding and calculating area
-
Using and plotting co-ordinates
-
Strengthening our number skills through problem solving and fluency tasks
Science
This term’s science topic is Light. Pupils will study the impact of light within our world, exploring concepts such as reflection, shadows, and how light affects the way we see.
Expressive Arts
In art, the children will be developing their sketching techniques, learning how to observe closely and express ideas effectively through drawing.
Health and Well-being
Our PE focus will be on hockey and gymnastics, encouraging pupils to develop teamwork, coordination, balance, and confidence in physical activity.
We look forward to an inspiring and engaging term, filled with opportunities for the children to grow as learners and individuals.
Best regards,
