Reception

This term, our Reception children will be setting off on an exciting learning adventure as we explore the question, "What can we find when we explore autumn?"
 

The children will spend time getting to know their new friends, building confidence and independence, and learning what makes our class a special place to be. Our story books Our Class is a Family, The Colour Monster Goes to School, Gruffalo Granny and Room on the Broom will help us explore feelings, friendships, kindness and belonging while developing our language and communication skills. Our author of the term is Julia Donaldson.

Learning will take us all around our school as we discover our allotment, forest school and outdoor learning areas, looking closely at the signs of autumn and the changes happening in the world around us. Through the Areas of Learning and Experience, children will develop their number skills through practical maths activities, investigate and question the natural world, express themselves through art, music and role play, and learn about themselves, their community and their wellbeing. With plenty of outdoor adventures, hands-on experiences and opportunities to learn through play, we look forward to a term full of curiosity, creativity and discovery.
 

Our Weekly Learning

Every week in Reception is full of fun, discovery and opportunities to learn through play!
 

· PE – We take part in exciting weekly PE sessions where children develop their balance, coordination, movement and agility while learning to work together and have fun.

· Phonics – We enjoy daily Little Wandle phonics sessions. Children are currently learning four new sounds each week and are beginning to use these sounds to blend and read words, as well as segment words for writing.

· Maths (TAPAS) – Our daily TAPAS maths sessions help children build confidence with numbers through songs, games, practical resources and lots of mathematical talk. We explore numbers in fun, meaningful ways as part of our everyday learning.

· Music – Every Friday, we join Dosbarth Poppit Sands for our Sing Up music session, where we explore rhythm, singing and movement together.
 

Reception is a busy, happy and nurturing place where children learn through stories, play, creativity and exploration. We can't wait to share all of the exciting learning, adventures and achievements from this year with you!
