Autumn Term 2026

Croeso i Dosbarth Tresaith!

This term, our learning focus is Discover, Explore, Change. Through this exciting topic, we will be learning about ourselves, our local community and the world around us. The children will develop a deeper understanding of our community, exploring why it is important to us and how we can make a positive difference.

In literacy, we will be enjoying stories by Oliver Jeffers, including How to Catch a Star, Lost and Found and Stuck. These wonderful texts will inspire our reading, storytelling and writing as we learn to retell stories, write sentences and create our own ideas based on the characters and adventures we discover.

In maths, we will be developing our understanding of number. We will explore place value, number bonds, addition and subtraction, patterns, shapes, measuring and data handling through practical activities, games and problem-solving challenges.

In humanities, we will investigate our local area and think about what makes Pontypool a special place to live. We will learn about important places in our community, ways to stay safe and how we can care for our environment. We will also explore children's rights through our Rights Respecting Schools work.

In science, technology and digital media, we will become material investigators! Inspired by The Three Little Pigs, we will explore the properties of different materials and use our findings to design, build and test strong houses. We will also develop our coding skills using Beebots and create photos and videos to showcase our learning.

Our creativity will flourish through a range of expressive arts activities. We will create seasonal artwork, shape pictures inspired by famous artists and experiment with pointillism techniques. In music, the children will develop their understanding of pulse, rhythm, pitch and tempo through singing, listening and performing activities using the Sing Up programme. They will also prepare for our Christmas concert.

In health and wellbeing, children will develop teamwork, friendship and confidence through gymnastics, dance and cooperative games. We will focus on working together, making positive choices and looking after our physical and emotional wellbeing.

Every day, children will participate in Little Wandle phonics, Welsh language activities and maths fluency sessions to help build confidence across the curriculum.

We are looking forward to a fantastic term full of discovery, creativity and learning together in Dosbarth Tresaith!
