Autumn Term 2026

Discover, Explore, Change: The Journey to Understanding

This term, Dosbarth Rhossili will explore people, places, journeys and identity through our lens 'Discover, Explore, Change,' with a particular focus on Wales and New Zealand. Our learning will be practical, creative and cross-curricular, encouraging pupils to ask questions, investigate and make connections across the curriculum.

πŸ“š Languages, Literacy and Communication

Through texts including The Mapmakers’ Race and The Explorer, pupils will develop their reading, writing and oracy skills. We will write for a range of purposes, including poetry, biographies, descriptions and persuasive texts, while also developing our Welsh language skills through our wider topic. Welsh will be used and practised daily, alongside one dedicated Welsh lesson each week, developing pupils’ confidence in speaking, understanding and reading Cymraeg.

πŸ”’ Mathematics and Numeracy

We will develop our understanding of number, calculation, fractions, decimals, percentages, negative numbers and statistics. Pupils will apply these skills to real-life challenges, including interpreting climate data, using maps and scales, and budgeting for journeys.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Humanities

We will compare Wales and New Zealand, exploring their geography, history, culture and people. We will investigate migration, place names, Welsh and Māori identity, natural environments and significant events such as the Christchurch earthquake.

πŸ”¬ Science and Technology

Our young scientists will explore forces, energy and sound through practical investigations. Pupils will also develop their digital and coding skills, including using micro:bits, while learning how to use technology safely and responsibly.

🎨 Expressive Arts

We will use art and music to explore culture, identity and place. Pupils will investigate Welsh and New Zealand landscapes, Māori-inspired art and the work of Welsh artists, as well as developing their musical and performance skills.

πŸ’š Health and Well-being

We will explore identity, belonging, relationships, resilience and celebrating difference. Pupils will also develop their physical well-being through PE and swimming, alongside opportunities for mindfulness and outdoor learning.

Throughout the term, we aim to develop confident, curious and independent learners who are excited to discover more about themselves and the wider world.
