Award Winning Staff
We are thrilled that two members of our staff were nominated for Primary Teacher and Teaching Assistant of the Year Awards in the South Wales Argus Schools and Education Awards. Mrs Jarman and Mrs Webb attended the finals last week; Mrs Jarman won Primary Teacher of the Year and Mrs Webb was a very worthy runner up in her category. We are proud of the recognition of their achievements.
Cwmffrwdoer Primary School Nursery – September 2018
Our new Cwmffrwdoer Primary School Nursery is due to open this September 2018. We are very excited to be able to provide our own pre-school provision and that children will be able to begin their learning journey from age three at the school. There are places still available. Please contact the local authority for further information.
Our attendance target is 95%. Currently attendance is 94.5%. We are just under target. Please continue supporting us in ensuring children attend school when they are fit and well.
Torfaen Council have launched a ‘Strive for 95!’ initiative to improve pupil attendance and reduce unauthorised absence in all Torfaen schools. From this year every pupil who achieves 95% attendance or higher during each school term will be entered into a prize draw at the end of the school year to win £50 of vouchers. Two winners will be randomly drawn from Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2.
All pupils in school will be rewarded if their attendance reaches 95% each half term. We continue to have an issue with a small number of pupils arriving late. This affects children’s learning and also affects attendance levels.
Please mark the dates of the National Tests in your calendars to avoid absences. Tests will begin on Thursday 3rd May until Wednesday 9th May.
Sport Relief – Friday 23rd March
Sports Relief Activities will be ongoing throughout all of next week with all classes participating in sports challenges including Daily Mile, Guess the Score (for Wales rugby game), fitness sessions and dodge ball tournaments.
Pupils can come to school on Friday 23rd March dressed in sports wear for a minimum donation of £1. All proceeds will go to Sport Relief.
Easter Hamper raffle
The PTA have kindly donated Easter Hampers which are on display in the school foyer. Raffle tickets are available in school and the raffle will be drawn on the 27thy March. Raffle tickets cost £1 a strip. Money can be sent into Mrs Jarman to purchase tickets.
Cwmffrwdoer Easter Duck Race
On Wednesday 28th March at 2pm, we are hosting a whole school Easter Duck Race to raise money for school fund to purchase resources.
The ducks will set off from Nant Ddu stream (opposite the Bridgend Inn) and pupils and staff will cheer them on. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and last duck!
Ducks will be on sale from the end of next week for £1 a duck.
Our Easter service will be on Thursday 29th a.m. in school for staff and children only due to lack of space.
After School Clubs
There will be no clubs the week beginning 26th March.
Pupil Voice- School Council and Eco Committee:
Green Mufty Day and Litter free lunches
We are raising money for our ‘Snack Shak, project to buy equipment for the new play area.
Year 1 and 2 pupils missed the Green Mufty Day and litter free lunches due to their visit to Bristol Zoo. The Eco Committee and School Council invite pupils in Year 1 and 2 to wear something green and all pupils who bring sandwiches to bring litter free lunches on the last day of term -Thursday March 29th. Donations of £1 from Year 1 and 2 for their Mufty day will go into the Snack Shak fund.
Friday April 27th – Preloved Book and Toy Sale
If you are having a Spring clean or a clear out in the Easter break please save any books or toys that are in good condition for our pre-loved sale. More information to follow after Easter.
We have a large amount of lost property in school. If your child has lost anything please come into school at 3.10 pm after school on Friday March 23rd to have a look through the items. We will be sending anything that is left to charity.
End of spring term
We will finish school for the Easter break on Thursday 29th March at 1:15pm. Bus companies have been informed to collect children at this time. We return to school on
Monday 16th April.
Summer term will end on Friday 20th July at 1:15pm.
