Parent/Carer Newsletter 6th September 2019

Parent/Carer Newsletter 6th September 2019

Welcome back to a new school year. I hope you have had an enjoyable summer.  It has been lovely welcoming all our children and seeing them look so smart in their school uniform.

During the summer, two members of staff, Mr Wharton and Mrs Webb got married. Congratulations to them.

Mrs Webb is now known as Mrs Phinnemore.

We currently have a child in school who has a severe nut allergy. Exposure to nuts could have very serious, even life-threatening consequences. Consequently, we would ask that children do not bring any nut-based products into school or in their packed lunches. This includes chocolate, cakes and other products, e.g. Nutella or cereal bars, that may contain traces of nuts. We would appreciate your co-operation in ensuring our school remains safe for all children.

Nurture School

We would like to remind all parents that we are currently working towards becoming accredited as a Nurture School. As part of this we keep at the heart of everything we do, the six principles of nurture as identified by Nurture UK. We have made the principles our own with the help of the pupils, see below:

  • Our nurturing school helps us to feel safe
  • We learn in our own way and are all at different stages
  • Nurture makes us feel good about ourselves
  • It is important to think about the words we use when we talk to each other
  • People who work in school know our behaviour is showing them something about how we are feeling
  • We all have changes in our lives and people who work in school can help us cope.

We are going to be learning a song to help us remember the principles in school.  I am sure your children will share this with you at home.

Family Breakfast Club

Each half term, we would like to invite families of all pupils from Reception to Year 6 to join their children in Breakfast Club. Adults will be charged £1 for their choice of breakfast and a hot drink.

This half term, our family breakfast will take place on Friday 27th September from 8:30am.

Tuck money increase

Tuck money will be 30p per item from this term. Tuck money should be sent into classes.

After School Clubs

All after school clubs will start next week beginning September 23rd.

The clubs that are offered this term will be shared with you next week. Children must obtain permission slips from the club leaders which have to be completed and returned before the club starts.

All clubs will start immediately after school until 4:10pm. Pupils cannot stay at a club without written consent.

Aldi Stickers for School

From 6th September, Aldi’s Kit for Schools promotion is giving 20 primary schools the chance to win £20,000 towards building a health legacy. Every school that enters by completing the Aldi’s Kit for Schools poster will also receive an exclusive school sports kit. Stickers can be collected with every £30 spent in an Aldi store.

Positions of responsibility in Year 6

Applications for the positions of Head Boy/Girl, Deputies, Prefects and other monitors are underway. All pupils who are interested in taking on roles of responsibility will have the opportunity to apply.

Pupils wishing to be Head Boy/Girl made speeches in assembly today and they really were amazing. They spoke from the heart about why the role is important to them. Myself and all staff felt very proud.

Labelling uniform items

Please ensure that all items of clothing including coats are labelled with your child’s name as already we have had many reports of lost items. It is much easier to locate missing items if they are labelled clearly.

We have a school account @cwmffrwdoer which staff use to share information about their classes as well as whole school information. Please follow us! Our school website is

Parking outside school

It has been brought to my attention that parents/carers are parking on the pavement and grass verge to drop children off and collect them. There are parking bays specifically for this purpose. Parking on the pavement or on the yellow lines is putting children at risk and I urge you not to do this.
