Wear Red Day

Thank you for your support with your children wearing red today to make a stand against racism. We are proud to support Show Racism the Red Card, the Welsh anti-racism educational charity. There is no place for racism or hate in our society and our children have participated in workshops this week for Hate Crime Awareness Week. Year 5 pupils created artwork around the topic of diversity and this was displayed at Pontypool Rugby Ground during their match last Saturday.

Heddlu Bach

Our Heddlu Bach Mini Police Officers took their oath this morning and were presented with their full uniforms by Officer Peter Walker of Gwent Police. We now look forward to them working on initiatives to make the school community a safer, better place. by Officer Peter Walker of Gwent Police. Children will bring invites home on Monday.

Parent Teacher Consultations

These will take place next week. Please make every effort to attend as teachers will share information with you regarding your children’s progress in class and targets for the end of the year.

Please note that all after school clubs are cancelled for next week.

Curriculum Reform in Wales

This is an exciting time in education in Wales. We are in the process of developing a new curriculum that aims to create exciting relevant learning experiences for all the children of Cwmffrwdoer Primary School that will equip them with skills to become lifelong learners. The new curriculum is being developed by teachers to help develop all pupils to be:

  1. ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
  2. enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
  3. ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
  4. healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

These four purposes will underpin all teaching and learning in Wales.

The new curriculum for 3-16 year olds will be organised into six areas of learning and experience (AoLE’s) to ensure a broad educational experience for all children and young people.

Literacy, numeracy and digital competence are so important to thinking, learning and life that they will be developed and strengthened across the whole curriculum alongside opportunities to develop wider skills and the Welsh curriculum. Learning will be a continuous experience, building progressively as children grow and mature with a range of Achievement Outcomes.

Parents/carers will be invited into school for various events to show how we are developing teaching and learning in line with curriculum changes. The first of these is our Marvellous Maths Day.

Thank you to parents and staff who organised and supervised the discos this week. Children enjoyed the events and raised money that will benefit the pupils directly. Lateness in school

Children can arrive at school from 8:50am when there are staff on duty but they must be on site by 8:55am ready to go into school for registration at 9am. If children are not in school for registration, they are missing the start of the school day and disrupt their own and others’ learning by arriving late. Please make every effort to ensure your children are in school on time.

Parking in school car park

Some parents and carers continue to park in the school car park despite previous reminders. The car park is for staff and visitors only. The school buses drop children off in the car park and unauthorised vehicles cause a danger to pupils. I have contacted the Council Enforcement Team to ask them to attend school at the end of the day.

Aldi Stickers for School

Thank you for your support this last week in collecting vouchers from Aldi. We have already filled one poster sticker chart.

Please continue to send the stickers into school.
