Newsletter September 2018

Welcome back to the 2018-2019 school year.

This term is an exciting time of positive change for us as we have our new nursery and our extension is complete. We have many new children and families this year and I hope you have all been made to feel very welcome at Cwmffrwdoer.

Our mission statement is: ‘Happy, together, learning and caring’ and this sentiment underpins all we do at Cwmffrwdoer Primary School.

Estyn Report

Our recent Estyn inspection report was published during the summer holidays. We are thrilled to share the report with you which recognises the good progress that our pupils make.

Inspectors agreed that “pupils’ behaviour is good in classes and around the school and they have very positive attitudes to learning.” The report states that “teaching is good, and staff provide pupils with a rich and engaging curriculum.”  Estyn also recognised that Cwmffrwdoer is a “nurturing school that strives to ensure that levels of care, support and guidance for pupils are high.” We look forward to building on this success during the coming year.

The full report is available on the Estyn website and paper copies available from school.

New Staff
As well as new pupils, we also have three new teachers.  We are delighted to welcome Miss Jones (Y1 – Dosbarth Amroth), Miss Hart (Y2/3 – Dosbarth Barafundle) and Mr Phillips (Y4/5 – Dosbarth Aberdovey).

Miss Deneen is now Mrs Cornwell following her marriage this summer. Congratulations to her! Mrs Cornwell will teach in Y1 with Miss Davies and also teach Y3 every Wednesday.

Car Park

Please note that the school car park is for staff only. Parents/carers are not authorised to park on site. There are parking bays available for parents/carers on Waunddu to use.

Emergency Contact forms

It is extremely important that we have the most current contact details for parents/carers in case of an emergency. Please ensure that we have these in school.

Teachers will be available until 4:15pm to allow parents/carers to visit more than one classes.

All parents/carers are invited to view the new extension during their visit.

Swimming Lessons Year 5

Swimming lessons for pupils in Year 5 will begin next week. Lessons will take place at Pontypool Active Living Centre every Wednesday morning. Y5 pupils will be bringing consent letters home this week. We have to ask for donations of £3 per child per week to subsidise bus costs. Lessons will take place throughout Autumn term.

After School Clubs

All after school clubs will start the week beginning September 24th. Children will be told what clubs will be offered this term and if they wish to join a club, permission slips from the club leaders have to be completed and returned before the club starts.

A list of clubs will be available for parents/carers next week.

Meet the Teacher

We invite parents/carers into school next week to meet teachers for a general meeting to see the class and find out general information about the class.

You are invited in to your child’s class on Tuesday 11th September from 3:20pm.

Please note that Mrs Jones (Y3) will be meeting parents/carers on Monday 10th September and Miss Davies/Mrs Cornwell (Y1) will meet on Wednesday 12th September.
