St David’s Day Eisteddfod and Pontypool Schools’ Eisteddfod

We had a lovely eisteddfod last week with some wonderful singing, poetry recitals, art work and Welsh folk dancing.

The Pontypool school’s Eisteddfod takes place on 17th March at Pontypool Active Living Centre. Art work that children have completed on the theme of ‘Belonging’ have already been entered. Groups of pupils from Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2 will be attending the Eisteddfod on the day to perform in different categories. Information will be sent home for pupils attending on the 17th March.

World Book Day

The children looked great in their World Book Day costumes last week and favourite books were shared in every class. Thank you for your support.

Parent Teacher Consultations (PTCs)

These will take place in the week beginning 21st March. Appointment slips should have been sent out to all families. Please make every effort to attend and let teachers know if the time is not suitable.

Parent/Carer Questionnaires

Thank you to those of you who returned questionnaires (we received a total of 41 out of 202). Your responses will feed into our school self evaluation.

I have looked at every response and contacted parents individually if there were specific issues to discuss. We are currently analysing responses in order to identify any actions we may take as a school. I will provide further information later in the term.

National tests 2016

The national tests in reading and numeracy will take place between 3rd and the 10th May. We ask that you note these dates to avoid any absences on these days.

Sainsbury’s Active Schools Vouchers

We are collecting Active School Vouchers so if you are shopping at Sainsburys we will be very grateful for any vouchers. Vouchers will then be used to purchase sports equipment for school.

Velindre Cancer Centre Chick Knit Appeal

As many of you are aware (by children coming home with knitted chicks), we are once again selling the knitted chicks to raise money for charity. They are £1 with all monies donated to Velindre Cancer Centre. Pupils can purchase them from the office at break times only. They are not available before school or at lunchtimes.
