St David’s Day Eisteddfod

On Tuesday 1st March, we will hold our school eisteddfod to celebrate St David’s Day. All children may wear clothes of a Welsh theme/colours.

The eisteddfod will be made up of class/group and individual performances, presenting of certificates for work which children have completed in class eg handwriting, art etc. In addition, classes will be reciting poetry and singing and some will be folk dancing. There will also be opportunities for pupils to showcase any talents they may have ie. Sport, dance demonstrations. House points will be also be awarded.

All classes were given homework on a ‘belonging’ theme prior to half term. Children can do any art work eg, a picture, collage. This work will then be entered into the Pontypool Inter Schools Eisteddfod at the end of March.

Unfortunately we are unable to fit parents into our hall to share in the event but I’m sure the afternoon will be very enjoyable for pupils and staff.

World Book Day – Thursday March 5th

Pupils may come to school dressed as a favourite character if they wish and/or bring their favourite book into school to share. A separate letter was sent home yesterday with more details.

The Royal Mint Competition – Design a medal for the Queen

Children are invited to enter an exciting competition for all primary schoolchildren in South Wales to design a medal to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday. There are three age categories: ages 5-7, 8-9 and 10-11.

The requirements of the competition are for children to design both the heads and tails sides of the celebratory medal. Entry forms will be sent home by the end of the week.

One lucky winner will have their designs chosen to feature on the medal and five others will receive runner-up prizes. The winning medal will be presented to The Queen.

Entries must be in school by Tuesday 1st March.

 Parent Teacher Consultations (PTCs)

These will take place in the week beginning 21st March. Appointment slips will be sent home shortly. Please make every effort to attend.

 New Eco Code

Thank you to all of our pupils who entered our school competition to create a new Eco Code. Mrs Jones and Mr Manning had a difficult job choosing the winner. All children were rewarded for their entries. Charli Tottle in Dosbarth Oren (Y3) was our overall winner for her great entry and our new Eco Code is:

Don’t throw it in the waste, the recycling bin’s a better place.

At Cwmffrwdoer school we all know,

that recycling is the way to go!

Parking in school grounds

Parking is NOT permitted in the school car park. It is for staff only. Unfortunately a few parents/carers continue to park in the car park.

Also, it has been noticed that some cars are stopping on the Zig Zagged lines outside the school gates to drop children off in the morning. This is extremely dangerous for all children who are walking to school and crossing the roads. Cones are laid out on the zig zagged lines to help keep all of our pupils safe when arriving (and leaving) school.
